When a young man named Aaron is accused of the horrific murder of Archbishop Rushman, the fiery Chicago lawyer Martin Vail takes on his defense pro bono. Aaron was a homeless street kid before the archbishop took him in. He is shy and stutters. Vail is convinced that Aaron is innocent, but after discovering a video showing that Aaron may have had good reasons to want the archbishop dead, she begins to question that conclusion. When Aaron confesses to the psychologist examining him, another personality, Roy, is revealed. With the trial already underway, Vail cannot change Aaron’s plea and must therefore find a way to present her client’s condition. Aaron also has a surprise in store for her.
