Twenty-year-old bride-to-be Sophie Sheridan (Amanda Seyfried) discovers in her mother’s diary that the strangers Sam Carmichael (Pierce Brosnan), Harry Bright (Colin Firth), or Bill Anderson (Stellan Skarsgård) could be her father. Desperate to know her father, Sophie dreams of having him walk her down the aisle at her wedding to Sky (Dominic Cooper) on the Greek island of Kalokairi, so she invites all three men to the wedding as if she were her mother, Donna Sheridan (Meryl Streep). Sophie believes she’ll immediately recognize her father among the three guests. Donna owns a small hotel on the island and used to sing with her friends Rosie Mulligan (Dame Julie Walters) and Tanya Wilkinson (Christine Baranski)—who also arrive in Kalokairi for the wedding—in her band, Donna and the Dynamos. When Donna sees her three former lovers together at her hotel, she becomes stressed and confused by the situation, while Sky is annoyed by Sophie’s behavior.
